SAP HANA – There are no Copies

If you use SAP’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, and you’re not using SAP S/4HANA, you’re on a deadline. A deadline that was recently extended to 2025, but still, the clock is ticking.

SAP will continue to offer support for its ERP software until this clock runs out. But then support stops, and those businesses that want support from SAP will need to migrate to SAP’s flagship ERP software, S/4HANA.

Described by SAP as its “biggest launch in 23 years, possibly ever”, this new ERP suite will run exclusively on SAP’s own database, HANA. Previously, SAP’s software worked with a number of databases, including Oracle, but businesses migrating to the new system will also need to migrate their entire database.

Even though 2025 seems quite some time away, much of the advice is to start preparing now.

To maximise the value of this in-memory database, organisations must run on robust infrastructure that offers the right combination of strong performance, exceptional resiliency and flexible scalability. At the same time, many want ways to reduce management complexity so their IT groups can stay focused on core business initiatives.

ISI have considerable expertise with SAP HANA and IBM Power Systems, the ideal platform for running SAP HANA. IBM Power Systems simplifies and accelerates your SAP HANA deployments.

IBM Power Systems provide a robust foundation for the IBM Cloud platform. Running SAP HANA workloads on Power Systems enables you to analyse growing volumes of data and produce results rapidly.

IBM POWER9 processors also allow you to scale up within a single memory space rather than having to cluster across multiple servers. Power Systems servers provide the memory capacity and bandwidth needed for the in-memory SAP HANA database.

ISI have considerable expertise with SAP HANA and the level of complexity required to provide the hardware requirements your migration should be built on.

2025 may seem a long way off but migrating to SAP HANA requires considerable changes to not only your hardware, but also the way your databases are configured.

If you’re considering SAP HANA, there is never a better time to speak to ISI to get an understanding of what it can do for your business, what hardware is required for a migration and how it can be achieved simply and effectively.
